To get technical, it's a method of making the sound originate from the same exact point in the horn to avoid the distortion caused by many other designs. The Peavey SP2's high-output woofer sports a convenient field-replaceable basket. Simply remove the three screws on the back of the magnet structure, lift the magnet structure off the basket frame, clean the voice-coil gap, align the screw holes, lower the structure into place on the new basket frame, insert the screws, then tighten.
