The JBL's PRX312MD passive stage monitor employs a quality 12-inch low frequency driver with a 2 ½ inch (64mm) diameter edge-wound ribbon voice coil to deliver robust bass, great efficiency, and big power handling capabilities to the system. A JBL 2412 1-inch ferro-fluid cooled compression driver with titanium diaphragm gives clear and warm high notes as well as uncompromised reliability to the system. This passive speaker has SonicGuardTM technology that increases system stability by protecting the high frequency driver from excessive power without interfering with the performance.
Apart from the drivers, the system's fault-free performance is dependent on the crossover network, which feeds the two drivers with clear cut frequencies with minimal overlap and can handle high power thanks to its high-voltage capacitors and inductors. The innovative Progressive TransitionTM waveguide is mounted on top of the tweeter and delivers improved coverage control, decreased distortion, and a smoother frequency response to the system.
For high durability and increased low frequency response, the PRX312MD encloses all acoustic components in a sturdy cabinet made of 15mm MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) with modern adhesives and mechanical fastener technologies. To make transit and setup easier, the case has two all-steel handles built into the sides. It can be mounted on a speaker pole and used as a main or fill speaker thanks to a 36-mm socket. The socket allows for either up-straight standing or a 10° tilt, which is useful when consistent audience coverage is required. A dent-resistant grille constructed of 18-gauge perforated steel protects the components inside the speaker from harm either on the move or during the show.
